Do your handmade clothes never quite fit the way you hoped?
In this practical one-day workshop, you’ll learn how to identify fitting problems, adjust a toile and transfer those changes back to your sewing pattern.
Rather than learning alterations in isolation, we’ll work through real fitting challenges across the group so you can begin to understand why a garment isn’t fitting – and what to change to correct it.
Bring a commercial sewing pattern and prepared toile you’d like help fitting. We’ll work through your individual fitting issues together while learning from the different fitting challenges demonstrated throughout the day.
One-day workshop: 10:00am-4:30pm
Small group: maximum 6 students
Skill level: Confident beginner to intermediate
You’ll leave with: a better understanding of your own fitting adjustments, corrections to your pattern and the skills to diagnose fit more confidently in future.

In this workshop, you’ll learn:
– How to assess the fit of a toile and recognise common fitting problems
– How to read drag lines, balance and grain to understand what the garment is telling you
– How to distinguish between circumference, length and shaping issues
– How to pin and test fitting changes on the body
– How to transfer those corrections accurately back to your paper pattern
– How to true seams, darts and pattern edges after making alterations
– How to approach common fitting adjustments with more confidence
– How to develop a repeatable fitting process you can use with future sewing patterns

Skill level & requirements:
Confident beginner to intermediate.
You should already be comfortable using commercial sewing patterns and sewing a basic garment.
This is a fitting and pattern-alteration workshop rather than a learn-to-sew class.
